Douglas Rooks has covered Maine government and politics for 36 years; currently, his political column runs in four daily newspapers, and State House reporting in the Portland Phoenix. He has served as editorial page editor for the Kennebec Journal and editor and publisher of Maine Times. The author of Statesman: George Mitchell and the Art of the Possible (2016) and Rise, Decline and Renewal: The Democratic Party in Maine (2018), his awards range from sports writing to the Dorothea Dix Award for coverage of mental health issues.
