For too many years, the story of news in Maine was that of closures, job loss, and growing news deserts. With fewer reporters, Mainers are burdened by the consequences: communities are left uninformed, civic participation declines, and corruption increases.

Since our founding, The Maine Monitor has been working to reverse those trends and deliver the thorough, rigorously reported journalism that our state needs.

Our reporting is fueled by the trust and support of the people of Maine — readers, donors, and community members who’ve told us, again and again, that local news matters to them. 

Right now we need your help to raise $70,000 during our Summer Fundraising Drive so we can sustain and grow the in-depth and local news on which Maine relies.

Our membership benefits

Monitor Members, which are those donating up to $249 per year, receive recognition on the newsroom's website, official newsroom sticker and advanced invitations to Maine Monitor programs. Those donating at least $20 per month or at least $250 per year are known as public interest members and receive aforementioned benefits plus access to the editor's report newsletter with the month's most important highlights. Fearless members are those donating at least $40 per month or at least $500 per year and receive the aforementioned benefits plus quarterly members-only event with newsroom staff and a newsroom t-shirt. Truthseeker members donate at least $85 per month or $1,000 per year and receive the aforementioned plus access to exclusive events.
