In this episode of the Chasing Maine video series, Roger McCord travels to Milbridge in Washington County to see what life is like for the Mexican community and how they maintain their holiday tradition with the help of their fellow Mainers.

A 20-year influx of immigrants from Mexico has changed Milbridge, Maine into one of the state’s most diverse towns. In this episode, hear from Juana Rodriguez-Vazquez and her brother, Roberto Vazquez.

Juana is part of the Vazquez Takeout restaurant business. and director of the nonprofit community agency Mano en Mano (Hand in Hand). Her brother owns a successful auto repair and sales business in nearby Steuben.

They tell of how, over 20 years, they have seen a growth in acceptance of the Mexican community — helping them to feel that Maine is indeed home.

In addition, Fr. Miguel Sevigny talks about how the work ethic and family values of the Mexican-culture community are a notable benefit to Milbridge and the surrounding area.
